CURO - AMG recorder for muscle analysis

Veterinary medical device with WiFi technology

ECT - Veterinary Medical Device, CURO AMG recorder for muscle analysis

Process

The CURO AMG recorder for muscle analysis was developed by ECT. The client came with the idea and prototype.

The process included:
– Hardware
– Software
– Mechanical design
– Testing
– Tooling
– Implementation in a factory

Additionally, ECT was in charge of the regulatory approvals for veterinary medical device. Both in accordance to requirements in EU and USA.

Challenge

Overall, the client wanted to create an equipment for AMG muscle analysis. Firstly, he had found a method to pick-up acoustic signals from muscles. Through analyzes of these signals, a variety of muscle related issues can be identified.

Above all, a major challenge was to convert the client’s prototype. Also, ECT had to make a solutions suitable for mass production. Furthermore, it was not clear, which technical parameters, of the sensor, that had influence on the functionality. In addition, it was not clear how mass-produced sensors should be calibrated. Nor how to be paired to support an accurate muscle measurement.

Solution

Finally, ECT developed a solution including housing and software. As a result, it consists of different types of sensors, and the AMG recorder. Through WiFi, the measured data is transferred to a smartphone. In a custom-made app, the CURO can be controlled and the measured data displayed.

Overall, the development process of the sensors was quite complex. Basically, these sensors work on the edge of physical technology. Therefore, we conducted a Feasibility Study including a survey of suppliers of sensor elements. Also, we had a detailed, technological discussion with the supplier. In this way, we could understand the different technical parameters. Further, we had to develop test equipment that simulates the muscle operation.

Veterinary Medical Device

In general, the CURO had to record and transfer data. Therefore, we implemented a WiFi interface. Thus, the data can be live streamed to a smartphone app. In this way, the data can be displayed in a user-friendly format.

Also, ECT worked with 3rd party Accredited Test Lab. In this way, it was possible to get an appropriate test report, showing conformity to EU and US regulations.

Lastly, we had to implement the product in two different factories. Simply because of major differences in technologies. Lastly. all specifications and testing equipment was handed over to the factory.
